Women Who Lift: Meet Trish

17. November 2013 09:22 by jennifer | 3 Comments

Welcome to my feature: Women Who Lift. If you are interested in being interviewed for the series, please email me at jennifer@metamorfit.org  I would love to spotlight you. You don't have to have a blog, you just have to be a woman who lifts!

Today I am spotlighting Trish. Trish works out at my box CrossFit En Fuego. Trish came on my radar during our competition The Diablo Games. Trish completed in the RX division and this was the first time I ever had the opportunity to see her. I was watching her compete and my mouth dropped open. Seriously. I thought to myself "holy smokes, who is this woman and where in the heck did she come from?" She C.R.U.S.H.E.D. every WOD. Seriously. And she came in to the games questioning if she was ready for it. Not only was she ready for it, but she WON the RX division! In my honest opinion, she is ready for MORE!!

Meet Trish

1 mile run: I’m not a runner in any way shape or form so if I can get it done in 10 minutes, I’m happy.

How long have you been CrossFitting? About 3 years

What keeps you coming back/motivated? I am one of those people that require a lot to keep me interested (I have a very short attention span). CrossFit is constantly varied which is great; combine that with a high intensity level and you get the perfect outlet for a person like me. I have yet to get bored or leave feeling like I haven’t worked hard.

How did you find CrossFit? I was introduced to CrossFit by a team mate who happens to own her own CrossFit gym. We started talking about the kind of workouts we liked and didn’t like. She said I would love CrossFit and I needed to come and see what it was all about. I went the following Saturday and did my first WOD. I was hooked and have been doing it ever since.

What is your athletic background? I have always been into competitive sports. I started paying baseball with the boys when I was about 4. After years of playing baseball I started to play fast pitch softball. I played year round up until I was about 19 or 20. I also played volleyball. I took a brief hiatus from softball and took up boxing and Tae Kwon Do. Now I’m back to playing softball (slow pitch).

How has CrossFit changed your life, lifestyle, level of fitness? My life has always been very busy. Naturally, with that comes associated stress. I can walk into the gym with the weight of the day’s stress on my shoulders, but without a doubt, I will walk out knowing that I threw it up, over and out of my head with every lift, skill and PR of the day.  Since I started CrossFitting I have noticed my level of fitness is stronger than ever before. I think that sentiment is mirrored in my life as well.

What is the one thing you have done at CrossFit that you never thought you could do? (muscle up, double unders, heavy deadlift, run a mile, etc.) I would have to say that I never thought I would be strong enough to deadlift 255lbs or jerk 155lbs over my head. I hope to increase those weights but it still blows my mind, lol.

What motivates/inspires you? I am a bit competitive (with myself more than others), so I think that is where some of my motivation comes from. My biggest motivator is the support and encouragement from everyone in our CrossFit family. Whether it’s just cheering you on to complete a WOD or pushing you to hit a new PR, the genuine support and camaraderie is second to none. It’s hard not to succeed when you have so many people to help you achieve your goals.

What is your proudest CrossFit achievement?  My proudest achievement thus far would be winning my first competition, The Diablo Games. I’ve won plenty of softball games and tournaments but there is nothing like going head to head with other athletes and actually winning. I know there is still plenty of room for improvement but it’s still a good feeling.

Name one goal/personal achievement you would like to achieve through CrossFit? I would like to go to an outside competition and place. It would be awesome to win but I would be happy to place.

What goals have you achieved in CrossFit? I’ve been able to do just about everything Rx. That was a big one for me. I’ve also hit my goals in almost all my lifts.

Hobbies/Interests outside of CrossFit? I play softball a lot. I also love to hunt and fish any chance I get.

Do you follow a special diet? Paleo? Whole30? I try to eat clean and have a balanced diet (it doesn’t always work out that way). I don’t really follow any particular program. When I’m hungry, I eat.

What is your favorite meal?  My favorite meal is a hot dog with sauerkraut and mustard; and don’t forget the beer to go with it. Wink

Any advice for new members? Don’t ever get discouraged! Keep going and you WILL get  better and stronger….no doubt. If you need help, just ask. You won’t find a better group of people that genuinely want you to succeed just as much as you do.

Loved learning more about Trish. Her advice about not getting discouraged is spot on! You can bet that no one starts off with a 285# deadlift, but keep with it, and you will get better and stronger.

What's one thing you've done in your life that you never thought would be possible?
