How to cut raw squash easily

I love the squashes: spaghetti, acorn, butternut, and others.

But I don't love how difficult it can be to cut them in 1/2 and that's a HUGE reason why I don't eat them more often.

I was reading something in one of my Facebook cooking groups and I thought I saw something that said to MICROWAVE the squash to soften it up, making it easier to cut.

I received a lot of squash in this week's produce co-op, so I decided I'd try to microwave technique!

To make the squash easier to cut, pierce the skin in a few spots, place it in a microwave oven and heat on high for 2 minutes. Let stand for another few minutes before carving.

My knife slid through the squash so easily!! It was wonderful!

I also tried it with the spaghetti squash, and it worked too, though I had to microwave it a little bit longer!

Do you have any tricks to cutting squash??

  • Chef Brendan McDermott says to use a bread knife, or serrated knife, on any vegetable with a hard, waxy skin.
  • I have the best trick of all! His name is Joe. Smile
  • No matter your wife or partner, you can still do something that will sweep her off her feet for Valentine. Sweetheart roses and miniature carnations: While this Valentine's Day flowers combo could certainly go for anyone, it is positively perfect for the little lady in your life who still thinks that Daddy is the number one man. Be a good listener, what they need is someone there to listen to them.
