Atkins Diet for a CrossFit Mom: Exploring the Plan

A couple of week ago I mentioned that I was going to be starting the Atkins Plan. Well, I have and I haven't.

Atkins was awesome in sending me out some amazing products to try.

And they also sent some snack bars, treats, and shakes!

This is all part of me following the Atkins 40 plan. What does that mean? Easy. 40 net carbs per day.

Eating some of the Atkins frozen meals, bars, shakes and treats makes it SUPER easy to count net carbs because everything is listed right on their packaging.

I really did like the delicious Atkins shakes, which have 8 flavors (I had chocolate) and contain an optimal low-sugar mix of protein and essential vitamins and minerals. I had the shake for breakfast. It was easy, and it was yummy.

I also had the Atkins stone fired cheese pizza. It was VERY good!!

But I didn't get to try any of the snacks. Why not?

My 8 year old son ate them ALL before I could get a taste. But he did say that they were very good.

I've been learning a lot while on the Atkins 40, and I'll talk more about that in my next post. But in a nutshell, on the Atkins 40 I've been eating:

  1. More vegetables than the USDA recommends
  2. Meats, fish, poultry, and plant-based proteins
  3. Healthy fats including olive oil, avocado and nuts
  4. Dairy including whole Greek yogurt and cheeses
  5. And a variety of fruits and whole grains.

GONE is the Atkins program of the 1990's where all you ate was steak, and eggs.

I say I have and I haven't been following the plan because carb counting has been a challenge for me. Sure, eating the prepacked foods from Atkins makes it easy, but I have no other tools to help me with tracking carbs. Atkins online is 100% FREE and there is a resource center, recipes, meal plans, and other tools available at Atkins.com, but I haven't had time to give it my all. BUT SOON! SOON I WILL!!

I'll be back next month to share more of what I'm learning, and tell you how I managed to survive Thanksgiving!
