What I'm Reading Wednesday

I read a lot. So I've decided to start a new "feature" here on the blog. Every Wednesday I'll share what I'm currently reading. I'd love to hear in the comments what you are currently reading!

Right now I'm reading The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt.

This book won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction in 2014.

The summary from Goodreads is as follows:

It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a thirteen-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

As an adult, Theo moves silkily between the drawing rooms of the rich and the dusty labyrinth of an antiques store where he works. He is alienated and in love-and at the center of a narrowing, ever more dangerous circle.

The Goldfinch is a novel of shocking narrative energy and power. It combines unforgettably vivid characters, mesmerizing language, and breathtaking suspense, while plumbing with a philosopher's calm the deepest mysteries of love, identity, and art. It is a beautiful, stay-up-all-night and tell-all-your-friends triumph, an old-fashioned story of loss and obsession, survival and self-invention, and the ruthless machinations of fate.

I am currently on Part 8-Chapter 4. There are 32 parts to this book, so I have quite a bit more to go! It's due in 3 days and I can't renew it, so I hope I can finish it in time!

  • Loved the book! Will confess that I "read" most of it via audiobook or id have I'd never finished in time for book club. My audio waiting list is almost as tall as the book stack by my bed. I'm in the middle of a book on Newton and slogging through Ghost of the Marie Celeste (it is short but I'm just not getting into it & keep putting it down.) And on Overdrive, Beautiful Redemption (totally YA beach fluff, great distraction from laundry etc). Can't wait to hear what you think of Goldfinch when you are done
  • I started reading this book over a year ago but for whatever reason I haven't been able to get through it. Everyone I know loved it and I usually agree with their taste in books...this one, though, I'm just not feeling it. You are inspiring me to give it another try Smile Thanks for sharing via #TBB #LinkLove
